How to

Step 1:

I’d like you to write a short response in the form of a text (10-15 lines) to the question above.

Things to keep in mind when writing:

Writing is great because it gives you the opportunity to reflect while taking a little time and thinking about what you want to say.

Furthermore, it also gives you the opportunity to focus on your vocabulary by avoiding words that you frequently use and instead using a thesaurus, to help you discover new words and expand your vocabulary.

For example, instead of saying ‘strong’, you might use ‘healthy’ or ‘robust’ depending on the context.

If you're unsure of a word, I recommend looking up the context and meaning on Linguee.

Step 2:

After writing your text, I’d like you to send me an audio recording of yourself reading your text out loud.

Apart from the text, reading out loud gives me insight into your pronuncation and intonation - the rise and fall of the voice in speaking.

I suggest using the opportunity to listen to your recording, focusing on the sound of your voice and the pronunciation.

If you feel you can do better, then I suggest reading out loud a few times before sending me the recording.

Being familiar with the text, allows you to put more emotion into what you’re saying because you’re thinking less about what you’re reading.

When you feel ready (or not), open Whatsapp, press record, and share!
