How to

Step 1:

Before watching, I suggest taking a few minutes to do the following:

  1. Prepare something to write with so that you can take notes

  2. Read the description of the video to get your mind focused on the topic

  3. Decide if you’ll watch the video with or without subtitles

  4. Watch the video once, then I suggest watching the video again while taking notes

You can use the focus questions to help guide your thoughts.

While watching, here are some tips to help you take effective notes while watching a TED Talk:

  • Write down the topic of the talk and the speaker's name

  • Listen carefully to the speaker's introduction

  • Pay attention to the main points the speaker is making

  • Focus on examples the speaker uses to explain their points.

  • Write down any questions or comments you have while listening to the talk.

Step 2:

When you feel you’ve watched the video enough times to understand its main points, use your notes to leave me a message about what you saw.

If you want to challenge yourself, put your notes away before recording the message.

I can also recommend this basic structure to start with. Tell me the following:

  • The title of the Talk and who is speaking

  • Share some of the speaker's main points

  • What did you personally find interesting

  • Share what you learned

Then, when you feel you’re ready (or even when not), open Whatsapp, press record, then share!
